Hotel Porta Nuova

The staff were friendly, the rooms modern, and breakfast generous. The hotel is conveniently positioned near one of the gates into Assisi. Highly recommended.

Parking is available at the hotel, though the spaces may feel tight if you have a larger vehicle. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and quickly gave us lots of information about Assisi. The hotel was clean and fairly quiet despite being on the street. Breakfast was quite good and satisfying by Italian standards. I’d recommend the place and choose it again if I return to Assisi.

The WiFi was generally fast, but unreliable at times and unprotected, since it’s an open network. That’s a small complaint, though, and I’d happily stay again if I return to this wonderful city. We got a very warm welcome from the woman at reception, whose name I’m sorry I didn’t catch. She took time to point out and explain the city’s main sights, and the rest of the staff we met were courteous too. I especially liked the breakfast, which leans Italian rather than continental and includes delicious traditional baked goods. The hotel is a short walk from Assisi’s historic center, in a quieter area. Our room was clean and spacious enough for three, the bathroom was very clean, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Grazie mille dalla Spagna!

The queen room was nicely updated, and the air conditioning worked great. It faced a roundabout, but we weren’t bothered by noise. The hotel is outside the wall, conveniently placed for the bus from the train station, and it’s a pleasant walk to the Basilica. There’s also a supermarket, bar, and laundry within walking distance. We skipped the 7 euro breakfast and walked a few minutes inside the wall to a cafe.
