Tenuta Antico Monastero

We had such a lovely lunch aperitif today. The appetizers were delicious, followed by superb tagliatelle with ragù. Dessert was excellent too: we tried bunet and panna cotta with strawberry jam, both with a really refined flavor. The owner was so kind and friendly, and so was the woman who runs the place, who’s also a very good cook. It all came with a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!

The €35 set menu was generous and good quality. After lunch on Sunday, we spent the rest of the day by their peaceful pool. The pool area could do with some improvement, but it was a pleasant day overall. The owners were friendly and happy to accommodate requests.

The landscapes made for a magnificent, totally relaxing weekend, even though I chose the wrong place to eat. We’d just returned from a one-night stay. The room was basic and clean, but so cold we slept half-dressed. Maybe it’s great in summer, but not in November! The food didn’t justify the prices. I’ve eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants and feel I know a bit about this. The Tuscan ragù and tartare were bland. Pork cheek was undercooked and tough, the pumpkin and gorgonzola gnocchi tasted like sour cream with no gorgonzola coming through, and the cut was average. Add a €30 bottle of Barbera that wasn’t included in the bill, and we spent €200. Fair enough if the food were genuinely top-notch, but it wasn’t. I’d rather have spent that at a good osteria serving typical Piedmontese dishes. Annalisa

The owners were warm and helpful, and made us feel right at home. The estate is an old monastery converted into a place full of history and magic. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you notice the comforting warmth and aromas from the kitchen. A one-of-a-kind fireplace sits in the middle of the warm dining room, and the lighting over each table makes it feel intimate. The food was EXCELLENT, with just-right portions. I even asked for another serving of pasta and they brought it. The wine was excellent too, and their blackberry liqueur deserves a special mention. Our room was comfortable, fully equipped, and warm. My wife is always cold, but she was fine. We also slept without any city noise at all. Breakfast was perfect, with homemade desserts and no frozen croissants. You can taste the difference! We’ll have to try it in summer with the pool. Thank you so much for everything!
