Hotel Florence

We returned to Bellagio after six years and had no hesitation about choosing Hotel Florence again. It’s our second stay, and we’d happily come back if we visit Lake Como again. The location is among the best on the lake, and a balcony room with a lake view is worth it for those amazing views. The place has a traditional Italian feel, with spacious rooms, lovely white sheets, and soft, fluffy towels. Staff were polite, helpful, and knew the local area well. The air conditioning worked very well too. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and the team in the breakfast room were attentive. We didn’t try the lakeside restaurant, as its menu didn’t appeal much, although it looked busy. The hotel bar was a nice spot for a drink before heading out to eat.

The hotel itself made our Lake Como visit feel magical. It’s a beautiful property, with charming rooms, a perfect location, and warm, welcoming service. The restaurant attached to it was a different story. The lakeside view was lovely, but the food was disappointing, with mediocre flavors, tiny portions, and prices that didn’t make sense. €35 for two little pieces of lamb felt unjustifiable. We raised the issue politely with the manager, Aaron, and got hostility and defensiveness in return, which soured the experience. The hotel is a gem, but I’d avoid its restaurant. There are better places to eat nearby.

The staff were superb. We had a wonderful rack of lamb at the waterside restaurant, then an apple calvados dessert while listening to the waves on Lake Como.

Everyone at Hotel Florence was so kind and helpful, and they remembered us during our stay. When we had to leave early in the morning to catch a train, they went out of their way to put together a small breakfast for our group so we wouldn’t start the travel day hungry. Our room was clean and full of charm. The location and hotel views are breathtaking. I’d highly recommend staying here when you visit Bellagio.
