The room was okay, nothing special, and it was the most expensive and worst place we stayed in Italy. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially given the hassle over the bill. After we made a non-refundable reservation through a booking site, the host raised the price by €23. She said that if we didn’t like it, we could leave, and she’d charge the card on file. She said the tourist tax wasn’t included, even though our reservation clearly said all fees and taxes were included. The tourist tax is €8.40, not €23. We weren’t the only guests questioning the amount at checkout, so this seems to happen more than once.

The rooms were clean, access was straightforward, and we could leave our luggage there on departure day. Being near the train station worked well for us, though downtown Bologna is a walk away. One issue: with no staff on site, if you leave before the 10am checkout, the only way to pay is to leave cash in the room. It’d be great to have a digital payment option for early departures.

Being right beside the station was convenient, and the clean room had the basics we needed for a night. It was pretty bare, though. We had to unplug the fridge to use the kettle, for instance. Communication with the hotel felt a bit strained, and nobody was around overnight. We also weren’t given contact details in case anything came up.

We had suite no 6, the most expensive one, with its own bathroom and a balcony looking over Bologna. The room was modern, clean and lovely, though a little noisy, which is understandable for such a central spot. The staff were very friendly when we met them, and they kept our luggage without any trouble. The arrangements could be clearer before booking at €100 a night. Nobody is there after midday, and the access instructions arrived by email only two hours before check-in, so make sure you can get to your email. Some people we met couldn’t get into the building because their phone had died and they hadn’t received the instructions. At checkout, you have to wait for someone to arrive at 10am to pay by card, or leave cash in the room. This isn’t advertised. Breakfast is at one of the cafes opposite, not at the hotel. You can choose coffee, juice, a sandwich or two croissants. It’s very overpriced, so I wouldn’t pay extra for it. We had a great time in Bologna, and I’d still recommend the place with those points in mind.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, and the balcony was a nice extra. The cleaning lady was lovely too. It’s handy for the train station and about a 15-minute walk to the town center. Reception isn’t staffed all the time. I’d have liked two pillows per person instead of one, plus a couple of folding chairs for the balcony.
