Hotel Palace Bologna Centro

The cinema noise was much too loud, as other reviews have mentioned. I managed to sleep with earplugs, but it wasn't great, and the beds could use new mattresses. Internet in the room was weak and intermittent, although I could take a Work Teams call easily from the lounge. On the plus side, the location is hard to beat, just a five-minute walk to Quadrilatero and the main sights, on a quiet street. The rooms were more spacious than I expected, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the old-fashioned communal area was comfortable. It's one of the few budget-friendly choices in the area, and central Bologna doesn't offer many decent budget options. It was an OK option, but keep in mind you get what you pay for.

The place was absolutely filthy. The shower head was broken, the mattress springs pressed through, and there was no air conditioning, just an inadequate fan for ventilation. The door locks felt unsafe. These conditions aren't suitable for test animals, let alone people.

I needed somewhere at the last minute a couple of weeks ago and stayed two nights. It was available at a good price. The location is excellent, with lively Via Ugo Bassi just one street away, nice for people-watching. The place is an old building and there's some street noise, but I slept fine and it didn't bother me. What mattered most to me was that the bathroom worked properly, with good water pressure, and it was modern and sparkling clean. The bathrooms were hygienic, and the ceilings and windows were very tall. There's a huge amount of space, and the front desk staff were wonderful and always trying to help. One odd thing: I wish I hadn't put my clothes in the wooden chest. It seems to have been treated with some chemical that smells strange, and the smell got onto my clothes.

The location was great, and having a front lobby staffed around the clock was really helpful. There was also a working elevator and a restaurant or cafe on site. The rooms were a bit basic, which comes with Bologna being a very old city. The walls and doors were thin. I didn't hear other guests making much noise, but I had to be extra careful myself so I wouldn't disturb anyone. It was very warm when I visited, around 90F, and there was no AC, though a fan helped.
