Castello di Buttrio

The woman serving breakfast was a real bright spot: warm, attentive, and kind to us every morning. The surroundings are beautiful and the hotel itself is nice, but the stay was disappointing and far from relaxing. Our room wasn't ready even though we arrived after the stated check-in time. Later we were told we'd need to switch rooms because of a wedding, so we had to pack early Friday morning just before our day trip to Venice. The replacement room had a broken shower drain, which meant using a shared bathroom in the hallway for two days. We reported it Saturday and were told someone would help Sunday, but nobody came until Monday, when we were moved to a third room. The wedding also disrupted our plans to spend a day by the pool. We got just 30 minutes' notice that we had to leave the pool area for the rest of the day. The wedding guests had taken over much of the hotel, but we didn't think we were in the way and stayed, since we were paying guests with the right to use the facilities. The owner also confronted us for sitting outside our room with a glass of our own wine. We'd tried and enjoyed the hotel's wine too, but we weren't at the restaurant, just outside our room, and were told it wasn't allowed. It felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. When we raised it, we were offered a bottle as an apology, which we politely declined. If there's a wedding during your stay, it seems the wedding guests will come first and the experience for regular hotel guests may suffer.

The grounds and decor are beautiful, and the castle feels warm and welcoming. The staff were very friendly too.

The vineyard team-building activity was great, and the staff were right on point. I loved the place and the view, and would like to visit again when I have more free time. An observation deck where you could enjoy the landscape with a drink would be a nice addition.

The breakfast was wonderful, and our room was large and very comfortable. This beautifully renovated property sits among its own vineyards just outside Buttrio. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're in the area.
