Friendly staff who are always available, and rooms made from old stone houses that have been carefully renovated. The place sits on top of the rock, just a few meters below the famous castle. It’s charming, and I highly recommend it.

Getting in took a few tries because the host can only be reached by phone to start check-in. Once inside, we loved our room, Upupa, with its huge bathtub, private terrace and view, plus all the comforts of home. Susanna was calm and attentive. Breakfast included divine homemade bread and cakes, and she’d even prepared filter coffee in case we wanted it as non-Italian guests. The property is wonderfully unusual, in a restored stone building centuries old, with thick walls in a remote medieval mountain village. We stayed in June, midweek and outside peak summer, so the village’s two restaurants might not be open for dinner. It’s best to have another plan. One restaurant made us an antipasto platter to take back to our room for later.

At Pane & Vino La Bottega, we had an ice cream and a soft drink. The staff were very friendly, and the view from the spot is fantastic!

We’ve stayed here twice already and hope to return again. Susanna really went out of her way to help us feel at ease, and the breakfasts were great. Her hiking suggestions were breathtaking too. It’s an incredibly beautiful, peaceful place, one of the most relaxing places we’ve ever stayed. If you’re after quiet in a truly scenic setting, this is the place.
