The location is excellent and very central, and the room was satisfactory overall. It came with towels, a hairdryer, shower gel, body lotion, and a hair cap. Still, the service wasn’t what I expected. Most of the reception staff were cold, with one gentleman as an exception. The booking didn’t make clear whether we’d get a Venetian style room or a standard one. When we asked, they said standard, which was what we preferred, but that hadn’t been clarified beforehand. I’d mentioned in my reservation that I was staying for my birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all in the room, not even a simple card. Even a small gesture would have made a difference. Cleanliness was about 5 out of 10, and the bed sheets weren’t as clean as they should have been. The room phone to reception didn’t work. There was no iron in the room, and the one we requested was broken. Housekeeping took it the next day without telling us. One evening, we asked for help opening a bottle of wine. They weren’t sure they had a corkscrew, told us to bring the bottle downstairs, and said they’d see how to open it. Despite the excellent location, it wasn’t a particularly good stay, and I wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

The old-school room design was charming, and the staff were amazing and very accommodating. Their desk is staffed 24/7. My boyfriend and I adored staying here in Venice. It’s a phenomenal spot, just steps from canals, great food, and san marco square, with nowhere more than a 20 minute walk away. I’d definitely come back if I return to Venice.

The room was small, but nicely decorated, and the bed was comfortable for our three nights. Staff were lovely, and the front desk recognized our room every time we came in for the keys and greeted us warmly. Breakfast had a great mix of sweet and savoury choices. The cappuccino costs extra, but it’s delicious and worth it. You can walk to everything from here. There are nice little restaurants on the same street, and the water bus and ferry are within walking distance. Gondolas are just steps away for a romantic sunset cruise.

Afternoon tea was a lovely touch, especially after a long walk around Venice. The staff were pleasant and very helpful. It’s a small hotel right beside St Marks Square, with rooms that aren’t large but are well finished and comfortable. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The breakfast buffet was a welcome extra and gave us a good start to the day. Hotel Montecarlo is just steps from St Marks Square, yet the area didn’t feel touristy. Every staff member was sweet, from the bellman to the dining room lady, and the front desk was polite and helpful whoever was on duty. We had a better experience than we expected. I’ve never had such personal service at a US hotel.
