Rousseau's Apartment

UPDATE: I guess they saw this review and posted a completely inaccurate one about me on Airbnb. Utterly repulsive behavior. The place feels like an afterthought. It’s dirty, and the amenities are old. The bathroom smelled musty or like sewage, and the ventilation didn’t help. There was so little water pressure that the rain shower couldn’t be used, and both showerheads had obvious calcium buildup. Someone had left a travel-size shower gel in the caddy, so who knows when it was last cleaned. The towels were so old, thin, and rough that we wondered if Rousseau himself had used them. There’s a staircase in the room that suddenly goes down to who knows where. They just told us not to use it. I didn’t mind, but other people might. You won’t see the canal from the room. I leaned over the desk and craned my neck to spot just a sliver of water, and I’m 5'10". They must have held the camera way out to get those photos. I’m tempted to call that deceptive. Neighbors were shouting late at night and early in the morning. For the price, this is unacceptable. There’s no elevator, in case that matters to you. The interior has nice bones, but if that’s what you’re after, just visit a palace, museum, or church. And there’s nothing about the Rousseau namesake here, so look for history somewhere else.

A wonderful apartment with a magical feel, very comfortable and fully equipped. It really deserves five stars.

The location near the central station was good, and there’s a nice view, no denying that. The bathroom looks remodeled, and the place has the basics for buying food and eating in. But I found the accommodation overrated, and they still need to get the logistics and conditions right for tourists. It’s on the fourth floor with no elevator, which was hard with our large suitcases, even if the stairs did help us get upstairs. We were given only two towels, and they were so worn and used they were practically unusable. Some appliances were unplugged, even though guests were expected. I asked about the air-conditioning and got no answer. You can’t turn it off, and it’s hot; opening the windows lets in mosquitoes and outside noise. The floors were dirty enough that we couldn’t walk barefoot, and there’s a blocked staircase that looks creepy. They could make things better. Since there’s a mini-fridge, even a small welcome bottle of water would be a nice extra. Honestly, I’d rather stay in a hotel. I hadn’t realized Booking.com could be like Airbnb too.
