B&B Casa Silvana

Right in the middle of Capri, with a lovely breakfast and a great host. The people there were really nice, and the service was great.

I stayed at Casa Silvana B&B in Capri in May and came away disappointed by several things. The breakfast felt tightly rationed: the staff member brought out only a bare minimum when guests arrived, then watched what and how much people took. It made breakfast uncomfortable. Payment also felt unclear. I was asked to send a deposit by bank transfer and pay the rest in cash on arrival, with no other option offered. The room, "Arancio," smelled strongly of damp and mold mixed with artificial fragrance. There were so many air fresheners that it seemed they might be covering up a mold problem. Once we removed them and told the property, the musty smell was even stronger, which backed up our first impression. We could also hear every conversation and noise from the next unit through the simple closed door between the rooms. It felt as if the sounds were in our own room. The bed was pushed against a wall, so getting out meant climbing over the other person. There was also a persistent, unpleasant paint smell, apparently from the bathroom door being repainted recently. I raised it with the owner, who brushed it off and said maintenance had been done the previous month. Interior water-based paint is recommended, but clearly that hadn't been used. I found the management inattentive and superficial, with little care for guests' well-being. Capri itself is wonderful, but I can't say the same about this property.

The house is halfway between the port and the main square up at the top of Capri. The climb is tough if you're not in good shape, so if you're unsure, go down to the port, take the funicular, then get off by her house. Silvana and her husband were so attentive, and Daniela sent us a really nice itinerary for Capri. Our room was spacious, very clean, and everything felt new. Breakfast was great, with things made fresh, and Silvana makes some delicious local sweets herself. If I come back to Capri, I'll definitely stay with them again.

The breakfast was unforgettable, from the Caprese cake and excellent pastiera to the red-fruit plum cake, all homemade. The local jams were delicious too, and everything used for the savory breakfast was top quality. Mrs. Daniela, who takes care of contact details, was reassuring even over the phone. Mrs. Silvana was delightful, truly excellent. The rooms were spotless, beyond what any superlative could capture. Highly recommended!
