Malafemmena Guest House

Our honeymoon got off to the worst possible start here. We arrived in September and had to climb a flight of stairs to reach the guesthouse. There was nobody to greet us, just a slip of paper with our room details and a key. At first we were excited by the ocean view, then noticed serious ceiling damage and water dripping onto the tiled floor. The roof leaked in more than 10 places, leaving a puddle we had to walk through in the room. It was unpleasant and a slipping hazard, close to the bed and the television electrics. The room smelled musty and moldy, likely because of the water damage, which also worried us as a health issue. We tried calling the contact number, but got a brief text saying “message only.” We sent our concerns and waited a long time for replies. They offered another room for the next night, but did nothing to help with the room we were in. After more than 90 minutes without a reply to our message, we accepted their offer of a full refund for both nights and looked for somewhere else. It was 7pm on Capri, and we had no idea how much last-minute accommodation would be available. The change caused extra expense and stress. The refund came through quickly, but months later we still hadn't received an apology for such a lousy experience. It's a shame, because the location seemed pretty good.

Meri was especially helpful with renting a scooter and arranging other island services. We also loved having breakfast delivered right to our room, the cherry on top of the stay. The rooms are huge, the balcony views are stunning, and the location is ideal. The bus stop is right beside the hotel, literally 10 meters away, and the main center of CAPRI is close too. Marina grande and Marina piccola are both about 15 minutes away. We honestly had our best time here, and the price was very reasonable.

We had a perfect stay. The room was really pretty, and we loved the balcony overlooking the bay. The location was great too, and breakfast was nice. A perfect place to stay in Capri!

The view from the B&B is breathtaking, but our stay with my mom was extremely disappointing. We paid over €680 for two nights, and I wouldn't have paid more than €60 a night. No view makes up for the high price and poor service. I definitely do NOT recommend it. Finding the B&B was a struggle because there was no sign visible from the street unless you were right by the door. We walked past at least four times. I called for directions, but they rejected my call, apparently because I had an American number and they didn't want to pay for it. Some kind people nearby helped us find the place instead. The toilet wouldn't flush properly. When I called, they rejected the call again and texted “message only.” I asked for a plumber, and they said they couldn't come that day but would send one the next morning. In the meantime, we were supposed to use a bucket from a storage room to flush. They didn't tell us properly where it was, and we couldn't find it. The plumber never showed up. On the second day, I explained what happened to someone at the desk. She said she'd increase the water flow so the toilet would flush properly, but she didn't. The room had no mini fridge, just a wine cooler that wouldn't go below 17 Celsius (66 Fahrenheit). We had no cold water during the challenging August heat. Another problem: one day we came back while the cleaner was still in the room. She stopped cleaning to let us in. Our used mugs were in the bathroom sink, and there was no dish soap or towel to clean them. We're two adults and assume the mugs get washed without dish soap and dried with used towels. Breakfast came on a tray to the room, with no savory options and ridiculous portions. For two people there was one yogurt, two plain cornetti, one mini Nutella we were meant to share, and no alternative if we didn't want Nutella. The two plastic glasses of fresh orange juice were only a third full. There was a tiny amount of muesli in an old 45 mg (0.0016 oz) marmalade or honey jar, and they hadn't even removed another product's label. When we asked for another portion for a second person, they said it was for two to share. My mom asked where the glass was so we could pour out this “half portion,” and they just stayed silent. There was a piece of paper in the juice. We had to go ask twice for a spoon and another mini Nutella, since only one of us could have yogurt with breakfast. It looked as if paint for the interior walls was too expensive on the island, since the Malafemmana b&b left the ceiling unfinished.
