Acquamarina B&B Deluxe

What really made our ten days here was Stella and her daughters, Serena and Veronica. Their warmth and care were obvious from the start. The B&B is right by the beach, with restaurants, gelato, and pastry shops close by. Our fresh, spacious room had a sea-view balcony, a comfy bed, and a good shower. Breakfast was generous, with fresh food and homemade cakes on the lovely sea-facing terrace. There’s also a little kitchen where you can make a quick lunch or pack something for the beach.

The family’s welcome gave us a sense of what living by the sea can mean. Stella and her daughters are warm and open with guests who open up too, while remaining reserved and never intrusive. On the terrace, a healthy breakfast with fresh air and sunshine felt like a gentle start to the day. Treat them with care and respect. They’re special people. Cariati and much of the Ionian coast aren’t for anyone chasing crowds, picture-perfect spots, or selfies at all costs. I came looking for a glimpse of real Calabria, and here the sea is right there in all its open force. The waves can be loud at night, unlike the more sheltered stretch by the breakwaters at Cariati Marina. I jokingly called the terrace “Montalbano,” for its spirit rather than its location, and because the colored lights along the seafront for the summer patron saint’s day added to the feeling of Camilleri’s sets. At first, you may need to get used to sleeping with the sound of the waves. Give it a few days, and the sea can feel like a reset for your soul and your nerves, worn down by a hyper-connected daily life. Things move more slowly here, and you can let yourself slow down too. We had a GREAT time here as a couple. The room was clean and roomy, and the sea is right below the B&B, with gorgeous water. Breakfast made by Mrs. Stella was superb, and the terrace view is breathtaking. Serena and Michele were happy to share useful tips. We’d gladly come back.

The desserts at breakfast were amazing, clearly made with care, and every morning felt like a treat. Serena was especially welcoming and speaks perfect English, which is handy for guests coming from abroad. Mrs. Stella and her daughters, Serena and Veronica, made me feel at home from the moment I arrived, with genuine kindness and attention. B&B Acquamarina in Cariati is welcoming, well cared for, and ideally placed for enjoying the sea and the village. I’d happily return for that warm, authentic Calabrian hospitality.
