The apartment was spacious, the setting and pool area were pleasant, and the owner was friendly and cooperative. For the price, this atmospheric Italian stay near Liguria's beautiful coastline was very good value. There were a couple of drawbacks for us: Wi-Fi was available only at reception, which would have stopped me booking if I'd known, especially with two teens who now see good Wi-Fi as a basic need. The beds, including the sofa bed, were only just adequate and could have been better. The owner wasn't very confident in foreign languages, though that isn't unusual in southern Europe, and we are the visitors, after all. The upsides outweighed those issues.

The location in the Lerrone Valley is commanding and lovely, just steps from the town's main square and church. But the place was poorly maintained and there was no staff around. The restaurant opens at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. for catering, and guests are left to fend for themselves, hoping someone will call online to make a reservation.

We liked it so much that we extended our booking from three nights to four. The owner family were exceptionally kind and hospitable, and Marcello was always available, accommodating every request and understanding what we needed as a family with children. He even brought us a bed rail without being asked. Our room was spotless, met expectations, and was cleaned daily. The free pool was great for relaxing and playing with the kids. When we asked if we could pick a fig, they said yes, and five minutes later a gentleman arrived with a plate of freshly picked ones. Breakfast was delicious, with local zero-mile products. The coffee was better at the bar, though that's normal and comes down to taste. The village is small, quiet but lively, surrounded by green woods, and about 20 minutes from the sea at Alassio. It felt ideal for relaxing and offered excellent value. Even with our little ones making a mess and leaving crumbs on the lovely balcony overlooking the view, we were treated wonderfully right to the end. We'll definitely come back. Thanks again.
