Hotel Garni Savoy

We booked about five weeks ahead, but when we arrived, the place looked scruffy and smelled strongly of dog. I told the man, who I believe was the owner, that we had a reservation. He looked surprised and said they weren't expecting arrivals that day. A woman in dirty clothes, who I believe was his wife, then told us they had no rooms and were full. First she called it a misunderstanding, then said it was because we were staying only one night. They should never have accepted the booking. To be fair, they contacted another hotel for us, and thank God they did. Hotel Alpenroyal was great, clean, and had very friendly staff. They also gave us free mountain passes and some useful tips. We enjoyed our stay there, but that doesn't undo how angry we were at Hotel Garni Sayoy. We shouldn't have been treated that way, and we should be able to book the hotels we choose. I'm also angry with booking.com, because its system won't let you review a hotel that cancels your reservation at the last second when you arrive.

TERRIBLE. The dog urine smell at Hotel Garni Savoy was disgusting. It filled the hallway, drifted down the stairs, and reached the lobby just off the breakfast area. We had prepaid for three nights and asked owner Alex about leaving two days early. Alex assured us twice that an early checkout was fine, but his wife Anita refused to refund the two nights. By then, we'd booked a lovely nearby hotel for our last two nights.

Anita and her mum, the owners, were lovely and really looked after us. We stayed for a week around NYEve 2018/19, and would definitely come back. The hotel is family-run, recently refurbished, tidy and clean, with a cute sauna and swimming pool. Warm towels and disposable slippers were provided in the spa. Our room had wooden interiors, a comfortable bed, good pillows, and a recently refurbished bathroom overlooking the castle 🏰. There's a basement room for ski equipment, handy after a day on the slopes. Breakfast offered a good range: mountain yogurt, crunchy cereals and seeds, eggs, cheese, speck and ham, bread and bretzen, butter, several jams, honey, cream, krapfen, croissants, juices, coffee, espresso and tea.

The owner was very rude, and the rooms didn't look like the pictures. It's a long way from the ski attractions, and there aren't mountain views. At the back, there was a bad smell from animals, so we couldn't even enjoy a coffee. The dog at the desk is very nice, but it would wake you whenever someone came into the hotel. The site shows a large spa, but it's a tiny swimming pool. The sauna doesn't work unless there are more than five people in the hotel, and there were usually only two or three. I also got infected with Cryptosporidium bacteria from their pool. Definitely don't recommend it.
