Antica Catania B&B

For the price, it was good value: low-cost and clean, with a double en-suite that was pretty Spartan but fair for what we paid. The bathroom was nicely fitted, though the drains really smell and the shower didn’t drain properly. I think the drain smell is a Catania thing, not the B&B’s fault. They can’t help the neighborhood, but they’ve made an effort with the garden. We had some lovely evenings on the patio, shopping g&t.

It’s only a five minute walk to the center, and the beds were comfortable with clean sheets. The reception guy was super friendly when he was there. Still, those positives don’t make up for the rest. The nearby area looked dangerous and was full of garbage; I attached a photo of the outside view. Our room was okay, but the bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned before we checked in. The shower was filthy, the toilet had black marks at the bottom, and the toilet roll was left over from the previous guests with no spare. Nobody was at reception at night, so after we ran out of toilet paper I had to take napkins from the breakfast preparation to use the bathroom on my last night.

Good value for the price, with everything we needed. The hosts were friendly, and the accommodation was simple, practical, and clean. Street parking outside was easy and free, and the center was only a short walk away.

The owner was easy to communicate with, and the furnishings, bathroom equipment, and mattress all felt fresh and comfortable. I’d happily come back next year. A lovely place for anyone who enjoys Italy and Sicily.
