Sakè Family Suite

The apartment is very central, and at this very cheap price, that's the only thing you're really getting. The entrance alone doesn't make a guest feel welcome. The interior looks as it does in the photos on here and on Booking, but the pictures are carefully made to hide defects. Some things don't show up in photos at all: cheap, uncomfortable cushions and mattresses, mostly cheap second-hand furniture, a moldy smell in the bathrooms, and clear trouble with bathroom humidity. The doors don't close properly, some door frames are falling off, and there are no shutters or thick curtains in the bedrooms, so the nice Catania sun wakes you early. Check my photos, they're real.

This two-floor attic apartment is large, with three big beds and one small one, and it's pretty and cozy inside. But the building is in terrible shape. Some bathroom fixtures are broken and seem to be ignored, and I found mold. The washing machine was there, but I had to clean mold and dirt out of it before I could put my clothes in. The two upstairs bedrooms have air conditioning, but the whole lower floor doesn't, and it gets incredibly hot. I liked it here, but the place needs disinfecting and skilled repairs. If I'd known about the building's condition, I probably wouldn't have rented it.

Way too hot and noisy, and I can't recommend it. Disco music from the neighborhood made it really hard to sleep, and an older neighbor's little dog barked nonstop.

We were in Catania during some very unusual flooding. The host was lovely, responsive, and helpful, and the apartment was fairly clean and as advertised.
