Excelsior

If you get up early, don’t count on getting coffee before the staff opens the bar, maybe after 7AM. Breakfast also seemed unprepared for the number of guests. We got vegetables on only 2 out of 7 days. I asked for boiled eggs and received cold ones from the fridge; the second time, they were warmed eggs from the fridge. Omelet came out just 1-2 portions every 10 minutes. Dinner was just as bad: it began at 19.30 in a 30C room, where everyone was sweating, and we waited at least 30 minutes for starters. I never finished dinner before 21:00, even though they knew how many portions of each course were needed. The hotel’s location is very good, and the building has historic architecture that fits the area and keeps its old charm. The interior preserves that architecture nicely. The bus stop for the slopes is near the hotel, and our room was clean and otherwise fine. But we ran out of toilet paper, literally, for the first time at a hotel. With all respect to the employees, this was an awful experience. There was no ski room ready for us, so our boots couldn’t dry, skis stayed in the hallway, and we took our boots to the room. Our room door was made of board, with gaps you could see through, and every sound carried into the room. For three nights in a row, 3-4 guests chatted loudly in the hall from around 22:00 until 1-2 AM after drinking. Nobody from the hotel asked them politely to lower their voices, though they were keeping everyone up. The room was far too hot, and the radiator thermostat had been removed, so we couldn’t adjust the temperature. I asked staff to set it to 20C, but that never happened, so we had to leave the window open. There’s no free parking, just a few spaces, far fewer than the number of guests. Avoid this hotel if you’re a large group of skiers hoping to get to the slopes early. I’ve stayed at many places in Italy with large groups and never had service this poor.

The biggest problem was the heat in the room. It was unbearable and made it very hard to sleep or relax. Reception staff were also unfriendly and unhelpful. We were a large group with children, and dinner was served much too late. Keeping my young children fed and content while we waited was a challenge we shouldn’t have faced. When I raised the timing issue, staff seemed uninterested and offered no solution or alternative. My stay at Excelsior was disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and they were happy to accommodate our special dietary requests. The hotel is in a great spot right in the middle of town, about a 10 minute walk from the ski lift, with a shuttle bus just outside. It’s a beautiful, cozy, family-run place. Our family room was comfortable and spacious, and the spa was lovely. I’d definitely recommend it.

A beautiful, really nice hotel with very good service. The only thing missing from the room is air conditioning.
