Hotel Il Settebello

The highlight was the huge terrace overlooking the sea. That view was what made me choose the hotel, and it was stunning. The room design was lovely, and the location by the bright blue sea, shops, and restaurants was pleasant. There’s also a magical pine forest a kilometer away, great for a run. For van travelers like us, it worked really well, especially at the discounted price. A couple of things need attention: the fridge barely cooled, and the shower area was disgusting and needs replacing. The hotel’s 12€ parking lot was full, but 50 meters away there’s a large lot with cameras for only 6€ max for the whole day. Use that one.

I had a voucher, but they wouldn’t let me use it because I hadn’t booked directly with them.

The food was basic and bland. I was on half-board, and meals were served across the road in their “dining room.” Staff couldn’t speak English, which made it hard to ask for anything, and the one person who could didn’t seem to like being asked. The rooms were small, grimy, and unclean, with charity-shop-style furniture and mouldy, scratched bathroom fittings. Windows don’t shut properly, so nights are noisy. After cleaning, the maids leave windows and doors open, maybe to clear the dank smell in most rooms, which doesn’t feel secure. The place looks like it hasn’t been upgraded in years. No pool or restaurant, and the dark, depressing corridors and ground-floor rooms didn’t help. Staff woke me around 7 each morning when they started work. Two stars at best. Don’t book it, or try to cancel if you already have.

The restaurant is across a quiet road, with a sea view. Meals were good and generous, and the antipasto buffet was especially nicely presented. The staff, who seemed to be mostly one family, worked hard to make things feel special, from their warm welcome when we arrived to the farewell party on our last night. I was there on a Just You holiday and found the hotel lovely, with excellent service. My room was simple but clean and comfortable, with enough space for a king-size bed. I’d heard street noise could be an issue, so I asked for a quiet room. Room 208 on the first floor was peaceful. There’s another floor above and a handy lift. Just one small thought: rubber feet on the bedroom chair legs would stop the loud scraping against the tiled floor.
