Hotel Capannina

The staff were kind, the rooms clean, and the location very convenient. Breakfast was good and filling by Italian standards. Aside from little things like the broken shower and sink, everything was very good and those issues didn’t spoil our stay. Good value for money overall. We’d come back.

The balcony view was good, and the bathroom was clean enough; the bed was bearable too. But I still wonder how this place got three stars. The furniture, carpet and wardrobe belong in a museum. Everything felt like a mix of vintage, a 17-year-old castle and old junk. The room had a strange musty smell, a bit like formaldehyde and antiques, and no ventilation. I’m surprised we didn’t find bed bugs. The walls are so thin you can hear people snoring or talking two rooms away. Breakfast was manageable, but avoid the juice. The room was serviced daily, yet not cleaned properly: we stayed a week and the potato chips left under the bed by the previous guests were still there. I’d expect they’d still be there if I came back years later. The reception staff were very friendly, especially Edoardo.

The room matched the one shown on the website. Its interior is a little old-fashioned, but suits the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the Italian-style breakfast buffet was enjoyable. I’d recommend the location if you don’t want to rent a car or spend much on transport: it’s near the bus station and a three-minute walk from the ski lift.

It was an okay stay, mostly because Cortina had no other affordable option at the time, though even this felt far too expensive for the quality. The room was okay and had a balcony, and the beds were big and nice. The bathroom was very old and dirty, with lots of hair in the shower that wasn’t ours. The hotel itself is very, very old.
