Residence Dolonne

I fell for this hotel and its stone building, which dates back to the 1500s. The views were incredible, and I couldn't stop looking out the window. We booked one night for three people while doing the TMB. On arrival, they said they'd forgotten about the third person, but they sorted it out right away and gave us our room after 15 minutes. It was a small room and not very spacious for the three of us, but all we needed was a good night's sleep, so we were happy. I really wish we'd been able to stay longer.

The gentleman at reception was incredibly friendly and supportive. Our room was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. We loved the rustic stone walls and the mountain views. The terrace was a highlight too, with a lovely view of the mountains and life in Couermayeur.

The restaurant meal was really good, both the food and drink selection and the preparation. The common areas also felt deeply historic, as if you could almost hear voices from the past in the corridors. On those parts alone, I'd give the hotel five stars. The rooms, though, looked very 80s. The cold tap water was actually warm, and after waking up I saw a flea that had just bitten me jump away. This was in room 10-11, and by morning I had around 6-9 flea bites on my body.

The room was clean, which was the one good thing. It was small, and I could hear everything from the other rooms, even people using the toilet. There was no privacy. Staff knocked on my door four times in a row to clean, and wouldn't let me sleep. Choose a whiter option or bring earplugs! The gentleman with an earring at reception was helpful, though. Thank you.
