The abbey's history goes back at least to around 1027, when a document recorded its donation by Litolfo da Carrara. Most of the monastery has disappeared over time. What remains is the lovely church, bell tower, and the old cemetery walls along the south side. On the north side, a small square has the cloister's outline marked in the paving, with the former rectory looking onto it.

I visited for the first time yesterday and found the abbey very well kept. Inside, it feels bright and intimate, with paintings and statues throughout. It’s a peaceful, evocative place, and I’d recommend stopping by if you’re looking for some quiet and serenity.

The stone really stands out here, especially in the Roman bell tower. This abbey dates to 1207.

The old abbey was destroyed by the Venetians, but its Romanesque church is still standing.
