a&o Hostel Firenze Campo Di Marte

This was my second stay at this hostel. The beds and linens were clean and fresh, and the room was clean overall. The amenities were perhaps the best I’ve had, with comfortable beds, sockets, shower gel, and very spacious lockers. You’ll need to bring your own padlock. I didn’t buy breakfast, so can’t comment on it, but there’s a good cafe nearby.

The rooms and toilets were clean, but on stays longer than one night they don’t tidy the room or change the bedsheets each day. The hostel is a bit far from the centre, though you can get there by bus. Staff were generally nice and tried to sort things out, but some were rude. When I asked for drinking water, they told me to use the guest kitchen even though there was a tap right by reception. The hostel is close to a main road, so traffic noise was loud. They don’t turn on the air conditioning outside summer, which made the room stuffy with the window shut, but opening it meant dealing with the road noise.

The staff were really helpful and accommodating, but sharing the mixed dorm was awful. Some guests were dirty and so noisy. People switched on the lights at midnight while everyone was asleep, cut their nails and left them on the floor, moved things around, and played music at 3 a.m. without headphones. Honestly, if you’re staying in a hostel with others, why be so inconsiderate?

Everything went smoothly, from the quick, precise check-in and check-out to the kind hosts. The hostel was cozy and very clean, in a great part of the city. The train is right in front, and it took about ten minutes to reach the city centre. I’d stay there again, and I will.
