Appartamento Leonardo

The location near the main sights is about the only good thing. Getting in meant hauling seven bags up two flights of stairs, with no elevator. The listing says there’s air conditioning, but it’s only in the living room and kitchen. The bedrooms just have fans, which was rough in summer when it hit 36 degrees. The furniture is old, and the bed back fell off before we’d even sat down. The blanket was dirty, as shown in the photos. The listing also mentions a dishwasher, but it doesn’t work. Yet the contract says we have to wash the dishes before leaving. We weren’t given a dish towel for the first four days. The kitchen window looks onto the building’s interior, where there was a strong smell and rubbish scattered around, so we couldn’t open it. It was noisy too, with people hauling stalls along the cobblestone street early in the morning and late at night. Far too expensive for what’s offered.

It’s a clean place that can sleep four to eight people, though the furnishings are cheap. For a visit to Florence, it could still work well, especially with all the tourist sights close by.

The photos really don’t capture how lovely it is. Inside, it’s gorgeous, very comfortable, and the heating works well. Getting up to the apartment is the drawback: there are a lot of stairs, and they’re narrow.

The manager made us feel very welcome. The location is excellent too, close to the monuments and all the amenities.
