The mosquitoes made sleeping impossible. There were at least 6 to 9 in the bathroom every day, plus another 2-3 in the main room, biting us everywhere from fingers to toes and buzzing right by our ears until we woke up. We also ended up with rashes and red marks all over, and I suspect something sketchy was going on with the bed. The shower was clogged with hair, so water spilled out into the room. Only about 2 out of 6 ceiling lights worked, the WiFi only connected in the bathroom, and my phone reception there was bad too. The cleaning lady was meant to come on day 7, but never showed. The room smelled horribly damp and shut up as soon as my girlfriend and I entered. She’s very particular about cleanliness and tried wiping surfaces with baby wipes, but everything was covered in dirt, beyond ordinary dust. It looked like the cleaners hadn’t been in for a while. Plaster was coming off from the excessive humidity, leaving paint chips all over the floor. This was one of the worst places I’ve stayed, and I’ve stayed in plenty. Since there’s no zero-star rating, I’d give it minus five if that were possible. The whole experience was unbearable.

There’s no reception, and the person to contact wouldn’t answer the phone. Even the address on the reservation was different from the actual one. We were told this was a 72-square-meter apartment for four, but the place was about 20 square meters and only had room for two. The sink was so small a heavier person couldn’t fit, the shower had no screen, and the bedroom had a worn-out sofa bed. The apartment in the photos bore no resemblance to reality. It was cramped enough that anyone with claustrophobia should avoid it. I won’t dwell on the dirt, dampness, and bad smell, though all of that was there. The real issue was how misleading the place was.

It was a struggle to check in. I’d been emailed to visit the office on arrival day, but couldn’t find it. A young man at a small grocery store ended up making a call for me so I could stay there, though I was ready to book another hotel. This isn’t a regular hotel, and staying here would be hard if you don’t speak English or Italian. The staff member who came to open the door didn’t speak much English, and my English isn’t good either, so we had trouble communicating.
