It worked perfectly for what I needed, which was simply somewhere to sleep. That’s what you’ll get if that’s what you’re after. Be very clear about your arrival time when booking, though, or you might be left waiting outside until the owner or someone else turns up to let you in.

Five years ago, I drove to this hotel to drop off my bags, as I was told I could. Now I have €2,000 to pay, five years later. Definitely a tourist trap. Thanks, Italy. I’ll never come back.

The location was perfect, and the room, beds, and bathroom were all clean. The host was kind, too.

A genuinely characterful place in Florence’s old town, and it was very affordable as well.
