The room was cramped, despite being small in a way we could have accepted, because it was packed with furniture. A large, worn and uncomfortable bed blocked one side of the wardrobe, so it couldn't open fully. That wardrobe and the bedside table were the only places for clothes, and we lived out of our suitcases. There was nowhere to hang damp or used towels in the bathroom. The heated towel rail over the light switch held one bath towel or two hand towels, and made the switch hard to reach. Breakfast was average: pastries, cheese, cold cuts, and bread, with just one coffee machine for everyone. The first morning, six people were waiting for coffee, so we changed our breakfast times after that. The acrylic chairs in the breakfast room were some of the most uncomfortable I've sat on; their design cut into the backs of our legs. I'm short and fat, my partner is tall and slim, and neither of us found them comfortable. Maybe they're meant to discourage lingering, unless you happen to like that sort of thing. The location is the main positive. It's an easy walk to the center, with lots of cafes and places to eat nearby, and it was quiet for such a central spot. We could open the windows, which helped with the damp and humidity inside. Reception was wonderful at check-in. We stayed three nights in May 2026 and paid a very high price. The hotel's line was that it matched local prices. There was no hot water for the first day and a half. After 24 hours, I asked at the desk. We had cold water, but they said city work meant we'd have no water for the rest of our stay. That wasn't true: about six hours later, hot water somehow came back. After I asked, the staff wouldn't even look at me in the lobby, except when collecting our room key. As long as tourists keep flocking to Florence, hotels like this will carry on with the status quo.

We were with a pilgrimage group of 28 others in January 2026. Although our room was on the hotel's first floor, that was the building's third floor; taking the elevator made it easy to reach. The room was tiny, with barely space to walk around the bed, though at least the bed was big enough for both of us. There was a desk that worked well for putting on makeup, an armoire my husband used for his clothes, and space behind the door for our spare suitcases. We mostly lived out of our bags. The bathroom was simple, and opening the window helped when the room got too hot. It overlooked a pretty courtyard, stayed quiet, and we slept well. The food was just okay, though we appreciated having it. Staff were fine, nothing special. They tried to charge us for a towel, but dropped the fee after we explained. The location is the best part. I'd only stay here again if I were desperate, though I'm sure other places would cost more.

The room looked a little dated, but it was only a base and we didn't spend much time there. Breakfast was good, a typical continental spread. Staff were professional, friendly, and excellent. The hotel couldn't be better situated, and we stayed four nights, feeling it was worth every penny. We'll return if we're back in Florence. Just be aware the rooftop bar isn't part of this hotel, and its drinks are very expensive, though the nighttime view makes them worthwhile.

Room 101 is a bad choice if noise bothers you. It's beside a restroom and opposite a metal hallway door, the kind used for emergency exits. We heard people opening and closing those doors every few minutes, plus conversations at reception and someone typing incredibly loudly. The bedroom photos were misleading, and its walls were somewhat dirty, with what looked like mosquito blood on the wall and bedsheet. Towels were clean, but the furniture was really old. The location is great, a short walk from the Duomo. The rooftop bar had an incredible view of the Duomo, tower, and Cathedral, and its staff were wonderful, though I think it belongs to the hotel upstairs.

We visited the rooftop bar every day, it was a special spot. Breakfast was plentiful, and we really appreciated that it came with the room rate. The hotel was easy to walk from to pretty much everything, and seeing the Duomo from our room was exceptional.
