Carmel and Pino were fantastic hosts. They were happy to help with anything, from restaurant advice to lending us a bottle opener. When one of us left a dressing gown behind, Carmel arranged to have it delivered to us in London. They went above and beyond, and we’d definitely recommend Il Bargellino. The room was beautiful and we really liked the decor. In the late afternoon or early evening, the terrace was a lovely place to relax. They even made fresh orange juice while we watched swifts flying overhead. We spent our days exploring Florence and nearby towns, then returned to a clean room replenished with coffee and cakes. A lovely start to the day.

Our room, #10, was gorgeous, and having direct access to the terrace was a real treat. We loved the coffee machine and the little cakes left for us each morning. The bed was very firm, just how we like it, and we slept so well in the dark, quiet room. My husband and I absolutely loved our stay. The owners were so kind and welcoming, and you can tell they love what they do. It felt like staying with family. I highly recommend this place when visiting Florence.

Conveniently near the train station, but I’d stay here again even if it were much farther away. This is an old-school Florentine guesthouse run by lovely Carmel and her equally lovely husband, who live there too. The EXQUISITE terrace is a peaceful little suntrap for reading or enjoying a glass of wine. I slept like a baby and woke up to coffee from the thoughtful in-room machine. I’m a tour guide around europe, and if I’m in town with a small group and choosing the hotel, I wouldn’t hesitate to book here so my guests could feel what I did. If you want to experience what staying in Florence is like, do yourself a favour and skip the fancy new-build hotels. Grazie Mille for the heart you still put into the place after all these years. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with antique furniture. My favorites are the ones off the terrace, where I can read, socialize, or sip wine after a long day wandering around Florence. Carmel and Pino are wonderful hosts, always welcoming and helpful. I stay at Ill Bargellino every time I visit, whether alone or with others. Florence never feels like a place I visit often enough, and the guesthouse is near the train station with an easy walk into the center.

I stayed here at both the start and end of my Tuscany and Umbria tour, and would choose it again if I return to Florence. The hosts were friendly, helpful, and easy to reach. Carmen is from the US, which made my first visit to Italy an easier introduction. The hotel is on a quiet street, far enough from the crowds, which are only a few blocks away. My cozy room had a comfortable bed, plus a sink and mirror tucked into a corner. The shared bathroom was just steps away and actually consisted of two bathrooms, always available. The large patio had plenty of spots to sit and relax, a real bonus. I highly recommend this boutique hotel.
