Ottantotto Firenze

The bed was comfortable and breakfast was good, but the room itself was dark, stuffy, and far too cramped for the price. We paid €209 plus taxes and tassa di soggiorno for a weekday in January. There was nowhere to put coats, so our day clothes had to stay in a suitcase on the floor. No chairs, table, or closet either. Our ground-floor window was small and right at street level, so we got the noise and smell of cars. Concierge service was available only for a few hours during the day, and there was tea but no herbal tea. The breakfast room had just six seats for 14-17 guests. After we complained, they gave us a 20 percent discount, which was something, but for such an uncomfortable room in the very low season, I still don’t think it was enough. That room should cost half as much.

The private garden is beautiful, and the location is handy for the city center. Ottantotto is a charming little hotel with friendly staff and rooms full of character. They’ve clearly paid attention to the details, and breakfast was delicious with options for everyone. We’d recommend it to anyone after an affordable, elegant place to stay.

Breakfast was included and lovely. The hotel sits on a quiet street, but all the great sights are within walking distance. A charming boutique place in a great spot.

We came back this June after staying here for our honeymoon in 2019, and the hotel still has the warmth, history, lovely garden, beautiful decor, and delicious breakfast we remembered. Service was generally very good, and a kind American woman at the front desk helped us arrange a taxi to the airport. But the way the key card fee was handled left a bad last impression on an otherwise meaningful return visit. My husband accidentally kept his card, and we only found out from an email after checkout. The welcome email asks guests to return their keys, saying, “Please at check-out, we kindly ask to give key/s back,” but doesn’t clearly say there’s a 10€ charge if one isn’t returned. I wrote to the hotel for clarification and got no response. They just charged my card, since they had my credit card details. If I come back to Florence, I won’t stay here again. If you do book, be aware they charge for a lost card.
