The tower climb was a highlight for me. Its narrow stairs make reaching the top feel rewarding, and the view over Florence, with the Duomo nearby, is one I won’t forget. Inside the private apartments, I kept noticing the frescoes, painted ceilings, and hidden symbols. Each room seems to reflect the Medici family’s influence and their wish to leave a mark on the city. I found myself taking my time and imagining the decisions made there. Palazzo Vecchio also feels like a place where Florence’s political history actually happened. Its medieval, fortress-like exterior gives way to elegant rooms, and the Salone dei Cinquecento is enormous and dramatic. The painted walls and huge ceiling make the hall feel overwhelming in a way that impressed me.
Inside Palazzo Vecchio, the Hall of the Five Hundred is striking, with its remarkable frescoes. Outside, the fortress-like Romanesque building and tall Arnolfo tower dominate Piazza della Signoria. It’s a stunning piece of Florence and a symbol of its history and art.
The square around Palazzo Vecchio is a big part of what makes the place so special. It feels like an open-air museum, with sculptures all around, from the replica of David to the figures in the Loggia dei Lanzi. Walking through, you can sense how art and civic life have been intertwined here for centuries. The palace itself is imposing and full of history, and it captures Florence’s political and artistic heart. Just wow.
The tower’s views, grand halls, and impressive architecture make Palazzo Vecchio unforgettable. It’s one of Florence’s best-known landmarks, with centuries of art, history, and political power behind it.
From the top of the tower, you get fantastic views across Florence, which makes the visit scenic as well as cultural. Inside Palazzo Vecchio, there are grand halls and richly decorated rooms, including the Salone dei Cinquecento with its impressive frescoes. The fortress-like exterior is a striking reminder of the city’s political power and artistic heritage.
