My room was huge and comfortable, so it was easy to unpack and settle in for the week. Strange Uncle is in a perfect spot, but it won't suit everyone: there are several steps up and down, and getting my nearly 50-pound bag upstairs was quite a job. Breakfast is available, though our schedules never lined up. I hadn't realized I should arrange it ahead of time, and once there I didn't bother. Most rooms share a bathroom, which I thought I'd hate, but I kept different hours from the other guests and ended up having the B&B and bathroom to myself when I needed them. One heads up that's about Italy, not Strange Uncle: I don't know if it's just certain months, but the mosquitoes are out of control. I didn't notice them during the day, yet I got bitten every single night wherever I went and stayed.

The Strange Uncle was easily my favorite place to stay in Italy. It was affordable, very clean, and the lovely rooms had everything I needed. The hosts have created a wonderful atmosphere for creatives, with eclectic notes on the walls from past visitors praising them. The location makes it easy to get around Florence, and the hosts shared some incredible local spots that took me away from the touristy areas and into the authentic heart of the city. I recommend them to everyone I know who visits, and I'll absolutely stay again when I return. Five stars hardly feels like enough. Ciao!

I've stayed at The Strange Uncle several times when visiting Florence, and I wouldn't choose anywhere else. It's right in the city centre, in a beautifully renovated apartment that's quirky and modern while keeping many original features. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean and modern. Bred and Nadja are lovely, very helpful hosts who can suggest local restaurants and day trips.

The owners were welcoming and attentive, but the place felt outdated. The pillows were lumpy and seemed old, with dust mites; the bedding and mattress were old too. The shared bathroom was gross, and the rug was always soaking wet. It might do if you only need somewhere to crash, but I'd pay $30 more a night for somewhere more comfortable.

Bred and Nadia are wonderful hosts who'll make your stay a lovely experience. The accommodation is great and so is its spot in Florence: the main sights are an easy stroll away, and the hidden gem of San Lorenzo market is right outside the door. Definitely recommended!
