The reception staff were brilliant when we arrived, and our small room was very clean, so no complaints there. The pool was lovely, but barely anyone used it. Some days my wife and I were the only ones there all day. The trip over on the boat was horrific, with it tossed about and lots of people getting sick. I read reviews before booking and was looking forward to the stay, but the food was awful, even though I'm not a fussy eater. The service was excellent. The hotel seemed to attract much older guests. We asked to sit outside in the lovely seating area and were firmly told no. When my wife asked if we could reserve a table, they said no, we had to eat inside. We were given the dinner menu at breakfast to choose from, and my wife said we didn't want to eat there after paying so much for the holiday. She couldn't understand why others seemed to sit at the same outdoor table every night. Then he immediately said we could have a table outside, so what was all the hassle about? It seemed the hotel bent over backwards for Italian guests, though we just tried to make the best of things. There's a lovely little bar, but rarely anyone available to serve you because the staff also have to help in the restaurant. I wouldn't return, though everyone is different, as the good reviews show.

I decided at the very last minute to stay at hotel San Francesco, and I'm glad I did. The pools, both indoor and outdoor, were great and very well maintained. My simple room was in the annexe, which made it handy for both the pool and restaurant. Breakfast and dinner had good variety and quality. It was amazing value for money, and I'd happily stay again.

The local food was excellent, including rabbit, and the staff were superb and very helpful. Our room was clean and tidy, though a little tired, and the shower was very good.

This didn't feel like a four-star hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful, and quick to deal with problems. Our room was right beside the pool, which was ideal, and the food was OK. The spa area was new and well maintained. The room itself was tiny and not cleaned very well. The pool got dirty and wasn't cleaned often enough, and the sun patio wasn't kept clean either. Only one plug worked, the one the fridge was using. The hairdryer felt dangerous, and the shower was tiny and old, with broken seals and handles.

The staff were the standout for me, brilliant service, much better than you usually get at a holiday hotel. We had a very relaxing break, and the hotel is lovely, with good facilities in a convenient spot for Forio and the beach. A taxi can probably get you to most places on Ischia in about 40 minutes, though service from the end of the street. The food was very good when we ate at the hotel, and we had lunch there a few times too. Thanks, hotel san Francesco.
