Umberto a Mare

The location and view are gorgeous, and the welcome bites were a real highlight, especially the beet and caviar. We also loved the rabbit pasta, and most of the other dishes were extremely tasty. The citrus was a bit overpowering in the risotto, though. The servers were lovely, very friendly and knowledgeable. They did get my order wrong twice, but fixed it quickly. The bread was delicious, too. They offer six olive oils to sample, but you can only try one. It would be nice if guests could taste two or three.

The meal was average at best. It wasn't awful, but nothing stood out enough to make those prices feel justified. Service was slow, inattentive, and unprofessional, which really shaped the evening. For fine dining, I'd spend my money somewhere else.

The bread and olive oils were lovely, and the views from Umberto a Mare are stunning. Unfortunately, the rest was a letdown. I asked how the caviar was served, and the waitress brushed off my question about blinis by saying it came on a piece of bread. The food was bland, almost inedible. Those few positives weren't enough to save the experience. I'd avoid it unless the scenery is all you're after.

The sunset view was the best on the island, the food was excellent, and the service was amazing. It was my favorite meal of the trip. We had come on our hotel's recommendation. There were only three couples there, but when we arrived the host loudly asked if we were two and whether we had a reservation. We said no, and he said we could sit there but didn't have a reservation. That wouldn't have bothered me if the seats had been full. The best tables were empty, and I couldn't understand why we were put aside instead of being seated somewhere better.
