Hotel Royal

The rooms are roomy, though they could have been cleaned more carefully. Still, I’d recommend the hotel. My husband and I stayed last week and had a good all-inclusive experience: meals were tasty and plentiful, with lots of choices and a well-stocked buffet. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the value was excellent. The setting is stunning, right on the seafront and promenade. Even the restaurant has a wonderful view.

The main issue during my four-day stay at Hotel Royal in early September was the cleaning visits. On the first morning, the cleaner came in at 8:15 while we were asleep and startled us badly. She apologized when we went to breakfast and gave us a door sign. When we came back twenty minutes later, she was in the room cleaning, so we had to wait. We thought it was sorted, but the next day she said we’d forgotten to leave the sign outside, although we’d deliberately left it there because we planned to return in ten minutes and wanted the room left alone. On day three, she tried the door before 9 even though the sign was up. On the day we checked out, she didn’t come by. I brought it up at checkout, but all they did was apologize. The Hotel Royal and Hotel Spiaggia are separate properties, though connected. Royal is more modest, while I’d say Spiaggia is better, even though they use the same kitchen. I got what I’d been told I booked, so people who complain should have read the details. The room was dated but clean enough, as were the shared areas. There was a good range of food, and staff were friendly.

Linda found me another room at the hotel next door the day after I arrived, because the bathroom entrance in the Hotel Royal room had a step that was too high for my health needs. I’d booked eight nights, so I appreciated her finding a solution. I kept using this hotel’s beach, restaurant, and parking, and I’d stay again, though I’d choose the beach side, where the rooms suit my health better. The hotel is in a great spot, facing the sea in the city center. I only spent one night in the Royal section. I had lunch in the restaurant, where the staff were very friendly. Gabriele deserves a special mention for helping me with everything, and I thank him again. The furnishings are a little dated, but the room was spacious, with a balcony and direct sea view.
