Fantastic!

We picked this B&B for its setting in the upper part of Genoa, with a panoramic view in a quiet, bourgeois area. We drove, so having somewhere to park was a real luxury in Genoa. It’s a genuine home where the owner lives, and breakfast is homemade, though the ingredients were very simple, supermarket quality. We liked the place, but the room was very small and didn’t have its own bathroom. The owner is helpful, kind, and reserved, though privacy is naturally limited. You need to be a little adaptable, but if you’ll be out exploring the city most of the time, a shower and a bed may be all you need.

The lady is a sweetheart, and her homemade cake at breakfast was excellent, though the rest of breakfast was modest. But there’s plenty to improve. There was no air conditioning or even a fan, which was rough with Genoa’s nearly 100% humidity in July. The bathroom was clean, but shared with the lady and a very long corridor away from our room. To be clear, you can’t walk there in your underwear. Put it this way, if I’m visiting my grandmother, I’ll go to my actual grandmother.

We’d booked a room through booking and had told the person running the B&B that we’d be arriving late. I also called booking, and they said there’d be a surcharge, which I accepted. But when we got there at 1 am, I rang several times before a lady finally answered and said she wouldn’t open the door because it was too late. Who leaves tourists abroad outside on the sidewalk with their suitcases in the middle of the night?...
