Agriturismo Sommassa

We were eight, two families, and Maria Aantonieta made us feel comfortable throughout. She was always there when we needed her and prepared one of our favorite dinners in Tuscany. The house is incredible, and the pool was clean with a great view.

Maria Antoinetta’s cooking class, with help from her friends Amalia and Enrico, was a highlight. We learned from them while making a delicious meal and then enjoyed it together as a family. Maria Antoinetta also surprised me with a delicious gluten free apple tort the morning after we arrived, knowing I’m gluten intolerant. The owners, Maria Antoinetta and Mario, made Agriturismo Sommassa special through their warmth and superb hospitality. Looking after the property and guests clearly matters to them. They were patient, responsive, and eager to help, even answering several questions by email before our stay. They also suggested great places to eat in nearby towns. We booked a week based on the online listing, and the villa delivered what it promised and more. It has beautiful Old World charm with modern conveniences. The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of closet space, and all except one had en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen had what we needed to cook, and there was a washing machine and a clothesline. Outside, there’s a wood burning grill and pizza oven beside a table and chairs for meals. We spent a lot of time enjoying the fresh air and being together as a family. The large pool area has lounge chairs, a covered spot, and spectacular views. There’s private parking on the property too. We’re still savoring our time there and hope to return.

Maria Antionetta’s cooking class is something I’d recommend. Our hosts welcomed us into their kitchen and showed us how they make Italian food. We made fresh ravioli with sage and butter, rolled tagliatelle by hand and cooked a traditional ragu, layered eggplant parmigiana, and finished with tiramisu. The food was wonderful, but sharing the cooking and meal brought strangers together too. We made new friends over floury hands and laughter. The views across the rolling hills of Greve in Chianti are spectacular. Thanks to our hosts for teaching us recipes and giving us a holiday to remember. Travel is about moments and friendships that stay with you. I hope to come back. ♥️

Maria and Mario are very friendly hosts, and the house has all the comforts you need. The pool looks out over the vineyards, and the location is perfect between Florence and Siena. A lovely, authentic place to relax and enjoy the Chianti region. I really recommend it!
