Hotel Eraclea

The location made getting around easy, with the beach just a three-minute walk away and plenty of restaurants and grocery shops nearby. The room was cleaned daily, towels were replaced several times, and the staff even folded our bedspread and pajamas. An umbrella and two deckchairs were included at the beach, which was a nice perk. The buffet breakfast filled us up, though the options were limited and repeated each day. Dinner was less worthwhile: small portions, and the fried meat was usually bland, seemingly without salt. You choose from five starters, including two soups, and five main courses. One thing to plan around is breakfast starting only at 8 a.m. We wanted to get out earlier for planned trips, and the journey to Venice by public transport takes about an hour and a half, so that timing made a difference. We’ve stayed elsewhere where breakfast started at 6. We chose the hotel after reading mostly positive reviews, but check-in was frustrating. Although Booking listed English, German, Spanish, and Italian, the receptionist answered nearly all our English questions in Italian, even after we said we didn’t understand. We had similar problems at the bar and restaurant. Staff seemed to understand English but would still respond only in Italian, which felt embarrassing for a hotel in such a busy place. The nightlife didn’t meet our expectations either: the area’s only nightclub was closed, and the streets were usually empty by midnight. The hotel was more pleasant than not, but we left feeling we hadn’t got what we expected.
