Hotel Ril

The housekeeping team were friendly and thorough, and Roco was the one waiter who genuinely cared about our experience and tried to make us feel welcome. The rest of our stay at this supposed 4-star superior hotel left us disappointed, especially given the price. We'd stayed in several 4-star+ hotels before and expected more. Families with children didn't seem to be a priority. Dinner was served late, and we often had to chase staff to get food in a reasonable time. Otherwise, the main course could arrive as late as 9 PM. Meal service was consistently slow, and the high chair for our child was never cleaned, so we had to clean it ourselves every time. Everything also required a separate reservation: beach chairs, pool loungers, and lunch tables. We were fine with the standard beach chair bookings in Italy, but having to reserve pool loungers too made it hard to relax. They were empty much of the week, even though the hotel clearly wasn't full, yet we were scolded for using one for just 1.5 hours in the late afternoon without a reservation. Having to go to reception multiple times a day just to get a place to sit was stressful and excessive. Breakfast was the same limited, uninspired selection every day, and dinner menus got repetitive too. Service wasn't attentive, especially if you weren't part of the apparent group of regulars. Even at the pool lounge, we often had to ask again to get a drink because staff were slow to come over. When asked at the end whether we'd enjoyed our stay, I mentioned a few things that hadn't worked for us. The feedback went to the manager, whose only response was “OK.” No apology or interest, and no sign they wanted to improve.
