Schlosswirt Forst

I was traveling solo by bike through Germany and Italy along the via Claudia Augusta route, and this was a great stop. The host let me charge my e-bike in the garage, asked about my trip, and even had the kitchen pack a really good lunch for my next day's ride. The place has a cool interior and feels more like a small castle than a restaurant/host house. The service was friendly and exceptional. Top notch!

The garden was the standout for us, with unbelievable views over hills, vineyards, and peaks in the evening light. The meal began with a lovely bread service, then a creamy, earthy chanterelle risotto full of fresh mushroom flavor. The veal schnitzel was crisp and tender, and its homemade lingonberry sauce gave it a great tart contrast. Every dish showed off quality ingredients and expert cooking. The team was warm and attentive without hovering, and the whole evening felt like a welcoming taste of South Tyrol at Schlosswirt Frost.

There are separate areas for the Michelin star menu and the standard menu, which is the one I tried. I liked the setting and service, and the poppy seed krapfen was a highlight, along with a few other dishes. The food was good but didn't wow me, so I'd recommend it more for the location and excellent service. Prices are affordable. Worth trying once.

The food was flawless, from the local organic permaculture vegetables to the sauces, cheeses, and desserts. My wife and I both had the tasting menu, and everything was delicious. They serve generous, hearty portions, which suit the Alps/Dolomites, and the price felt very reasonable for a Michelin star restaurant. I'd come back tomorrow if I could.
