Hotel Arco del Sole

The beach is only a couple of minutes away, which is a big plus. Rooms were cozy and comfortable enough, though some were more modern than others, and a few pieces of furniture broke by accident. The staff were friendly, but didn't seem in a hurry to bring out meals, and we waited much too long. Food was the weakest part, with things like focaccia and potatoes served undercooked. The toilets were kind of crusty too. If you don't mind those things, it's fine.

Being so close to the beach is the biggest plus. The rooms are clean and nice, with fresh towels every day, though the four-person room is quite small. The AC worked well. I'd ask for a room with AC rather than a fan when booking. Staff were upbeat and helpful; communication in English had its problems, but things worked out. Trains pass very close to the hotel, which might bother some people, though I didn't mind them, even at night.

I've known this hotel since 1999, when we got married, and have come back with my family. My mother loves it. The manager is a great person, kind and helpful, and the reception staff are polite and very helpful too. It's clean, the food is good and typical Genovese, the fish is excellent, and there's a buffet breakfast in the morning. I'd recommend this three-star hotel to anyone. One drawback is that reaching the private lido means using the underpass because the train runs along the seaside. I suppose the eight-minute walk is good exercise.

The balcony was nice, but its railing was rusty and the chairs were a bit broken. Inside, our room was so cramped that the doors couldn't open properly. The reception staff spoke only Italian, which was very annoying. We also had a dripping shower and a broken window shutter. The salad bar was tiny and disappointing, and breakfast wasn't good either. There was no fresh bread, and the ham sat out in the heat while cats wandered around during breakfast. That didn't seem hygienic. This is by far the worst hotel I've stayed in.
