Hotel San Pietro

The lake and mountain scenery is incredible, and it does a lot to carry this place. We enjoyed our stay, and the pools were pleasant without being too crowded. Almost all the staff were helpful and nice. The rooms were clean and adequate, though dated and not really up to a four-star standard. The hotel feels a little run down in general, even if the views can distract you from that. San Pietro still has more potential than it's currently reaching.

The lake and mountain views make this a special place to relax, and the breakfast included in our stay had a satisfactory range of options. The pools were clean, and my 8-year-old enjoyed swimming and sitting in the sun. They're a little deep for children who aren't confident swimmers, so an adult needs to be in the pool with them. Our room was large enough and generally satisfactory, with air conditioning, a small fridge and a kettle for tea and coffee. The bed and pillow in room 805 weren't comfortable; I woke up most days with a sore back or neck. Better pillows and a mattress would have made this a 5-star stay. The friendly staff were around to answer questions and help. The hotel is a 10-15-minute walk from the main center, though it's uphill, so you'll want to be fit. There's also a scheduled bus between the hotel and the car park near the tourist information point. We had a great seven days and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break. P.S. There are five pools, several sun terraces and a very good restaurant by the pool for lunch. The bedrooms were large, very clean, had plenty of storage and fantastic lake views. It's a wonderful hotel with great facilities. Breakfast had a very good selection. The downside is that dinner isn't really served here: the buffet is at the adjacent hotel Christene, and that's the only bar open in the evening.

The grounds were lovely, with two outdoor pools and one indoor pool, and the staff were helpful. But the hotel was disappointing and needs updating. It didn't feel like the advertised 4 stars, more like a 3-star place. Our room had supposedly been updated, but the work seemed cheap. The old air conditioning and bathroom showed their age. The pool bar shut at 6pm, and after that the hotel felt dead. Dinner meant going next door to the 3-star Cristina hotel, also owned by Parc Hotels Italia, where eating felt like being in a school canteen. We had to get the room lock changed because the old keys no longer worked. The bathroom tap also had to be replaced. It didn't work properly and eventually came off in my friend's hand. The hotel sits high above town, and the shuttle cost 3 euros each way. It stopped at 7.30pm, so after that we needed a taxi.
