Hotel Martino

Hotel Martino is tucked into green slopes running down toward the beaches of Marina di Maretea. The coastline is stunning and doesn't feel overrun, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Staff were polite and attentive. The hotel's restaurant is priced like fine dining, but the food really is delicious. We also recommend breakfast there.

That sea view from the room is amazing, and the hotel has its own beach club just a short walk away, with a charming restaurant next door. The staff were so nice and always smiling, which can't be easy in the August peak season. Thanks for everything, Hotel Martino!

We loved our stay at Hotel Martino and would definitely return. The included breakfast was really nice: you order from the waiters rather than choosing from a buffet, and they bring it to you. They made several kinds of coffee to order, and there was juice, yogurt, fruit, sweet pastries, cold savory items and cereal. The restaurant staff were great, and the hotel's restaurant was fantastic, though a bit pricey. The White Horse is also a great nearby option. Parking was a little limited, but we always found a space. We thought we could park in front of the restaurant if needed. The grounds and sea views are beautiful, with mountains and pretty beaches all around. It's right on the coastal road, easy to reach, and a calm, charming place if you're looking to avoid a very touristy spot. The downside is the lack of nearby shops and restaurants. The hotel doesn't stock things like aloe vera or sunscreen. Our bed was a bit too hard, and other guests and cleaning staff were loud at 7 am every day, waking us up. We also didn't realize the small water bottles in the minibar cost extra until checkout. We were charged about €27 for around 15 bottles. With no shop nearby, buying the hotel's water is the only option unless you're happy to drink tap water. I don't mind paying for it, but they should say it's not included in the room rate, and the price felt too high. Google Maps sent us down a steep, narrow road that turned into a muddy dirt track, because it showed the hotel entrance near the coast. The actual entrance is on the main road, so correcting the map pin could fix that.

The room was very nice and cleaned daily, and the staff were great and helpful, though their English was limited, as was my Italian. I spent four nights here in May and paid very little for the comfort. The weather was poor, so I couldn't swim at the magnificent beach about a ten-minute walk away. There's also a pool, but you need a swim cap or have to buy one. The restaurant is just a few steps from the hotel. Without a car it was my only place to eat, but I don't regret it: the food was fresh and delicious, and I ate there every night. You can buy the hotel's homemade products at reception. Breakfast had croissants, bread, jams, cheese, ham and other items, plus a hot drink. There are lots of interesting places nearby, but without a car you can only walk along the busy road.
