Hotel Gallo Nero

The magical dinners were the highlight for us, with a new menu each day of starters, a main dish, a side dish, and dessert. The wine selection was lovely too. We also tried the jacuzzi and massage, which I highly recommend, and enjoyed the special Acqua Dell'Elba perfumes available to buy at the hotel. Staff were extremely professional and friendly, and made our stay wonderful and unforgettable. We spent almost a week at Hotel Gallo Nero on magnificent Elba Island and felt like we were in heaven. Our small but cozy room was beautiful, with a stunning view straight out to the eternal blue sea. Fresh towels and room cleaning came daily. Breakfast was amazing each day, with very tasty coffee. We wanted somewhere to slow down, and this worked beautifully. The gardens are lovely, the staff are friendly, and the restaurant is excellent. From its hillside setting, the hotel has made little private corners, with a pretty path winding down to the beach. The rooms seem to all have balconies, many looking out to sea. A great place to unwind and get a feel for Elba.

The quiet was wonderful, with birds, wind and waves as the main sounds, and a garden path lined with lovely plants leading down to the beach. My friend and I loved starting the day at the pool and jacuzzi. The rooms were tastefully decorated and stayed cool even in the heat. There were four sweet, friendly cats around the place, and Dodino, the chubby one, was my favorite. We ate dinner here, choosing from the menu each morning since lunch isn't served. We could ask for something else if we fancied it, and every meal was delicious. Breakfast was lovely too, though I did wish they had pancakes, haha. The staff were so polite, warm and helpful, and the view felt like something from a storybook. Matteo and his father kindly drove us to and from the airport, about 45 minutes away. I didn't try the massage. It was one of my best weekends in a long time, and I'd definitely return.

The garden, view, pool, jacuzzi and cryo bath made for a relaxing holiday setting. Breakfast was decent too, with prosecco, sometimes fresh watermelon, and nice pastries. We paid around 140 for a small room without a view during the busy holiday period. It had thin glass doors that rattled constantly and woke us up. We booked late, so maybe we ended up with the worst room left. Dinner on our first night, after arriving late, also made me hesitate about half board. The ingredients seemed chosen on a tight budget, and there was no fresh fish, while other restaurants had a catch of the day. It felt like a family-oriented place, so I probably wouldn't return.
