I especially want to praise the kitchen and cooks. The food was amazing, probably the best I’ve had at any hotel or resort. Castello di Monticelli is a charming, friendly place to stay, and I had a great time there. I highly recommend it, especially since it’s close to the lovely city Perugia. This was my first visit to this part of Italy. Coming from Norway, I enjoyed being in fertile Umbria, apparently Italy’s «bread basket».

I still get excited about coming back, even after a few visits. Monticelli is a dream, peaceful, friendly, and accessible, and a lovely way to enjoy the Umbrian lifestyle. The restaurant food is stunning, so book ahead. Ellen and Giuseppe are wonderful hosts, like characters in a movie. Highly recommend it for a short visit or a longer stay.

There are two pools, and the setting is beautiful, with very friendly people. They arrange dinners featuring local specialties, which I highly recommend, especially the one held at an organic farm belonging to one of their friends.
