Agriturismo Colle Igino

Getting into Matera City was easy, and back at the property we could relax by the pool and take in the beautiful scenery. The hosts were wonderful, and the homemade breakfasts were amazing.

This was an awful experience. I booked the agriturismo through Booking at 10 am on the day we were due to arrive and got a confirmation email. I said in the booking that we'd arrive at 6 pm, but when we got there the gate was shut. I called the contact number. The woman didn't speak English, so she passed the phone to a man, who told us to find another entrance. He then said they hadn't received any information about our reservation, though later in the call he said they'd found out about it at 2 pm. He plainly told me they were out of town and wouldn't be back for another two hours. There was no apology. When I asked what he could do to help, he suggested we go to nearby Matera. After a seven-hour drive with a two-year-old, who was crying outright while I was on the phone, that wasn't an option. Then the man just hung up. My husband called back, and the owner agreed to cancel our reservation. I've never spoken to such a hostile 'host'. I don't see why Booking's poor communication with the host should be blamed on me. This is no way to treat guests.

The countryside setting means you do get a few little insects, but it was perfectly manageable. The real highlight was our host, Angela. She was always available and welcomed us with delicious homemade focaccia. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the pool area is spectacular if you're looking to enjoy those long summer days. A rare gem, and an ideal base for Matera and the surrounding area.

We spent nine days here, and the cook managed to make delicious meals without repeating dishes, while also taking care of my celiac needs. The owners were extremely friendly and attentive, and the views are beautiful. It's close to Matera, too. The breakfast was easily the best I've ever had, made fresh each day with natural products from the farm. We'll be back.
