B&B Aurelia

Mrs. Francesca was genuinely kind and helpful. The B&B is clean and nicely renovated, with lovely bathrooms and big showers. It’s only a few steps from the center, so the location is great. Highly recommended!

Francesca welcomed us warmly, explained how to get around, and shared a little about the history of the Sassi. Breakfast was brought right to our room, which was lovely. The room was well cared for and felt like home, and the property is close enough to the Sassi to explore everything on foot. Matera is enchanting and feels like stepping back in time. The only small drawback for me was the third-floor location.

The room was clean and spacious enough for two, with a memory foam mattress that was just what I needed after a long flight. A little snack and capsule coffee machine were provided, plus milk and a frother so I could make my own cappuccino. I’ll remember that one longer than any café cappuccino I’ve had! The host sent directions and check-in details on WhatsApp, then came by early in the morning to leave my luggage and give me the key. The B&B is on the fourth floor, with no elevator. For the price, this was the best value of my Italy trip. The central square is a 5-10 minute walk, viewpoints are 15-30 minutes away, and the train station is just 3-5 minutes away, handy for checking out and getting to other parts of the city.

The rooms are simple and comfortable, and the cleaning is impeccable. The owners are extremely kind and helpful, and breakfast at the nearby café was delicious. The walls are very thin, though. I got unlucky with rude people in another room who turned the volume way up at 1 a.m. to watch Maria De Filippi.
