Very central and clean, and the air conditioning was excellent. It’s an apartment converted into separate rooms, with a shared bathroom.

The rooms are small but very clean, and the place is new. The bathroom is shared, with face and bidet towels provided. There’s no councilor. The second floor has three rooms and the apartment of a very kind elderly man, Pasquale. He charges €4 per person per night, plus €20 under the table for unattended street parking, which is a steal. The mattresses need improvement, and the air conditioning makes an absurd amount of noise. Location and cleanliness were the only real positives. The rest could be better, though the parking situation is simply nonexistent and they still charge you for it. That disappointed us, because everywhere else we went in Matera, we found kindness, honesty, and professionalism.

The location was great, but the hospitality was terrible. We paid the tourist tax when we arrived, yet the host didn’t ask for our documents, so the tax probably wasn’t paid and our presence likely wasn’t reported to the police station, which would violate national law. We also got caught in an unpleasant, unprofessional feud between the host and a neighbor while we were on vacation. On top of that, the host charged us €10 to keep two motorcycle jackets in his garage, clearly under the table. I’ve read earlier reviews describing similar situations, and the host always replies, “I love haters.” To me, that suggests he has no real response to honest criticism.
