Hotel Nazionale

It’s easy to walk from the hotel to the sassi and downtown, and there’s free street parking around the area. Staff at reception and breakfast were friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned daily, with towels changed, though the bathroom is small and cramped. Breakfast has lots of sweet treats, but better cheese and ham would improve it. The hotel seems to host plenty of tour groups and business travellers.

I felt safe and happy here, and everything I needed was taken care of. The rooms were clean, nice, and in order, and the staff answered all my questions. They even booked a tour for me. Claudia warmed up my food, gave me water, and helped me find a grocery store. Alessio, Antonio, Gilbert, Claudia, and Ana all gave me wonderful service. Domenico made delicious coffee. They treated me like a queen, and I’m so pleased with the hospitality that I plan to come back. Five stars from me.

We hadn’t planned to stay in Matera, but an unexpected accident left my wife with a broken foot, so we needed somewhere easy to manage while we changed our travel plans. Hotel Nazionale worked out perfectly for her recovery. The staff’s kindness and compassion, especially from the dining room and front desk team, meant a lot. Claudia, Alessio, and Antonio were very helpful, and Francesco was especially thoughtful and attentive, always making sure we had ice for my wife’s injury. We also appreciated the practical things: breakfast brought to the room, help getting to a pharmacy, comfortable rooms, an elevator, Wi-Fi, a parking garage, and good value for the price. In normal circumstances, the convenient sightseeing location and great breakfast would stand out too. We’ll definitely stay at Hotel Nazionale when we return to Matera. We stayed just one night because we’d already booked an air BnB in the Sassi. The place was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast had lots of choice, and the coffee was really good.
