La Corte Dei Pastori

The room was spotless, fully equipped, and beautifully designed, with a truly unique feel. The artwork and carefully chosen local breakfast items show the care put into every detail. Staff were attentive and genuinely helpful, and breakfast was wonderful. Right in the main part of town, it felt like the best place to stay in the whole city. Thank you for looking after us so well. We’ll definitely come back one day. You really do have the most beautiful accommodation in the city.

We had an excellent long weekend, and I’d stay here again. The staff were very kind and helpful. Our La Roccia suite was gorgeous, with a private balcony and stunning view, and the made to order breakfast had lots of choices and was brought to our balcony. The air conditioning worked excellently in July. The location in the Sassi district was perfect, close to the start of the Tibetan bridge hike up the mountain and to excellent restaurants. Shops and restaurants in the newer part of town were a short walk away.

The owners are kind, and breakfast is tasty. It’s a great base for enjoying the city, its beauty, and its stone buildings. I totally recommend this place.

The walk to La Corte dei Pastori is worth knowing about before you arrive: you can’t drive right up to the property, so getting there means walking through the old town, which can be challenging in the summer heat. Once you’re there, though, the peaceful atmosphere and beauty more than make up for it. The rooms are carved into the rock of the Sasso Caveoso, giving the stay an authentic feel. They’re rustic yet beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and fitted with modern comforts. It’s a lovely mix of tradition and luxury. Breakfast was a highlight, fresh and generous, served with a breathtaking view over the ancient city and the Gravina canyon. Having it on the terrace in the morning sun, surrounded by centuries of history, was an experience in itself. A memorable place for enjoying Matera’s character, comfort, charm, and views. Highly recommended!
