The service really stood out, and breakfast was excellent. It’s a romantic little boutique hotel, with an interesting design and care put into even the smallest details.

We loved being right in the Sassi, close enough to walk to the main sights, restaurants, and viewpoints. It was quiet when we wanted to rest after exploring. The hotel has a premium price, but sleeping in a cave hotel in Matera made the experience feel worth it to us. Our suite had a terrace overlooking the old city and Gravina canyon. Inside, the original cave structure is part of the design, with modern comforts around it. The bathroom was a highlight, especially the big rain shower set into the rock and its strong water pressure. Some rooms seem to have better views than others, so it’s worth asking when booking. We also liked the attentive design throughout the rooms. Breakfast can be served in your room or on the panoramic terrace. There were local specialties, fresh pastries, and eggs made to order, all presented with care. Having breakfast outside made for a lovely morning. The staff were a big help with restaurant suggestions, tour bookings, and local information. They can also arrange guided tours of Matera. Parking nearby is limited, though valet service is available. We’d suggest booking a suite with a terrace for the view. La Dimora di Metello was a memorable place to stay in this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The rooms had a breathtaking view, and the hotel sits right in Matera’s old town. We also enjoyed the modern architecture, good breakfast, and very friendly staff. We’d absolutely recommend it and hope to come back.

The balcony gave us a beautiful view of Matera, and the location was just right. Our room was tastefully decorated. Breakfast had lots to choose from and was delicious. We tried two nearby restaurants, and both were really good. One of the prettiest hotels I’ve stayed in.
