Lamia Matera 11

The last-minute cancellation left us stranded and seriously disrupted our trip. Less than a day before we were due to arrive, our reservation was cancelled because of a “booking system error.” At first the hosts said they'd help us find somewhere else, but at 11pm the night before our stay, Eustachio & Benedetta told us that wasn't going to happen. Their communication was vague and unhelpful throughout, and they made no real effort to take responsibility. The whole thing caused needless stress. I strongly caution others against booking here, the risk isn't worth it.

The only downside was wishing we could have stayed longer. The lovely owners welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed. The place was beautifully furnished and had everything for a comfortable stay. It was an incredible place to stay.

We only booked one night and really wish it had been longer. The hosts were friendly, lovely people who are passionate about Matera. This fabulous three-floor apartment sits at the edge of the old town and has great views and facilities. They also left us food and snacks for our arrival.

The owners went far beyond what we could have expected when our diesel car was accidentally filled with gasoline. It was late Saturday afternoon, and we needed to catch a flight in Bari on Monday. They took charge straight away, arranged for the car to be towed to their mechanic's shop, got it repaired on Sunday, and drove us to pick it up Monday morning. Incredible service, all done with a smile. This husband and wife team was kind, welcoming, and so capable, and she speaks excellent English, which we found rare in Pulia and Calabria. We were two couples staying for two nights, and the accommodations, amenities, and service couldn't have been better. The apartment is perfection, as are the owner/managers. It's just steps from the historical old “Saasi” of Matera. There isn't parking on site, but the owners offered a nearby space and met us on arrival to make sure our car had somewhere to go. We can't say enough about them. Five stars only because ten wasn't an option!
